This is my favorite parallel parking learning video.
It tells me the rationale and the detail steps.
I watched this video many times and practiced before my road test. And I passed!
Reverse parking: 新手停车技巧以及常见错误,城市泊车教程 (this one is chinese speaking video. I take its reverse parking skills. For Parallel parking, I prefer the above mentioned English site)
My hubby knows how to drive but he is not a good teacher. XD. He has admitted it (I have forced him to admit it). He could be a bit impatient and his answers usually could not satisfy my questions. Therefore, I searched youtube finding learning videos for my own and he could be a safety guard to caution me of any inadvertent carelessness. Nevertheless, tons of Thank you to my hubby's time to accompany me for many practices.
One time, my husband let me drive and had me practice parallel parking but I did not do it quite well. It was an evening out meeting our friends for a dinner, already dark, when I was adjusting the distance, I slightly hit a pick-up car behind my car -there was no damage to the truck's front bumper but it made my rear bumper a lightly visible scratch.
He said in a very upset tune that why I still could not do it well, bla bla bla.
I said to him "Are you upset with me or are you upset because the bumper was scratched?"
I then blamed his tune making me nervous to make such a mistake. He was not yelling at me but he raised his voice than normal tone. It's nature for me to wonder if he cares about the car more than me when I heard his comments.
He then tried to comfort me that he's just concerned for my skills. I said "That's why I need more practices!"
It's almost been an year since I got my driver license yet I always avoid parallel parking and reverse parking. These two days while my husband is away in Korea, I have reviewed the videos again and feel like to refresh my skills. On a phone talk, I asked my husband to go practice with me when he's back. He said "Ok, and I think I will have to be patient with you~". we both laughed.
Sometimes I am envious of people who have good direction sense and know how to park well, like my husband. ;) I also had to overcome the fear to drive on the roads. I think I've done well along the time. Hopefully with more practices I will feel more comfortable to drive & park. Maybe I was not born with the driving talent but I will try to overcome my fear and do practices. Be confident! The instructor of my road test, my husband, and my friend who rides with me commented me as a safe driver, that's something!
